Note Taker Job description

Information for UF students

As a note taker for HowIGotAnA@UF  it is your responsibility to attend every lecture and take detailed notes for the class for which you are hired.  In the case of an absence from class, it is your responsibility to obtain the missed information from a reliable source. In order to increase sales for your class, you are also required to advertise by "couponing" your class.  This entails you reaching the student body either in person with hard copy discounts or electronically by blogging  class message boards.  It is important to meet production deadlines.  As a note taker for HowIGotAnA@UF you are the heart and soul of the company and the quality of your notes is a direct reflection of our business.

It is your job to let your fellow classmates know about your notes. You can flyer the class, blog websites and discussion boards, or communicate using whatever way that you feel gets the word out. Remember, if people do not know that we are offering notes, they will not buy them.

When turning in practice exam questions or completed materials, your practice exam questions and your chapter summaries (if applicable). It should also include the time that you expect to turn in your supplement.

All of your notes must be in Microsoft Word and saved in a .doc format. Our computer system in not compatible with any other formatting (.docx, .text, .rtx), so please make sure to convert your file when saving to a .doc format.

Again, please make sure to follow up with a phone call and let our editors know your material is in. The sooner we can put your notes out for sale, the more likely that your sales will increase.

Please remember that every employee here was once a notetaker and can help you with any questions that you may have.

When is my packet due?

Your main packet is due 7 days before your exam.  Please turn your packet in on time.  Timeliness is imperative because customers will be ready to purchase your packet right away.

The supplement is due 8 hours after the last class before your exam.   Your supplement consists of the few classes that took place between the last day of your main packet notes and your exam. It usually includes 2 or 3 days of class.

You will have a specific date that your final exam notes will be due on; we often spread the due dates out to avoid many packets coming in on the same day.  As usual, the supplement for the final will be due 8 hours after your last day of class.

What's in the packet?  (The Content)

Everything that your professor says is important!  Write down all the lecture notes.

If you think it would be helpful to include a graph or a drawing, do it! However, handwritten drawings and graphs are not to be included. Many of these illustrations can be done through different computer programs (i.e. paint, word). If you would like assistance with this, please ask one of the employees.

Even if class is cancelled for a day, record it in your notes.  Every single day in your notes should have a heading, so that all days are accounted for.

SAMPLE :

September 12, 2007                Wednesday

Professor Howi cancelled class today due to his hemorrhagic colitis.

September 17, 2007                Monday

Class was cancelled today due to National Fun Day.

You are the voice of the class!  Remember, HowIGotAnA@UF 's staff members are not in your class, so we do not know what's going on: it is up to you to tell us if test dates change or any other relevant information.

Please be sure to keep in mind that you will need to make a list of at least 50 terms and definitions for practice exam questions. These can be in the form of a word and definition, a true or false statement, or a short fill in the blank question. Think of terms that you would want to study for yourself; these terms will benefit students most.

     Question                                                                       Answer

1. University of   Florida                                                   1. The best school in all of  FL.

2. True or False: HowIGotAnA@UF is the                        2. True

     best notetaking company in FL.

You can use whatever format that you think is easiest; it does not have to mirror this example. As long as the editor can CLEARLY see what is front and what is back, then that format is acceptable. Please do your practice questions in Microsoft Word only, do not use Microsoft Excel or any other program.

Please be aware that you can NOT include any copyrighted material.  This includes lecture notes typed on the web and Power Point.  Using this material would be considered plagiarism, which will not be tolerated.

What you must do is REWORD and REPHRASE. If you have any questions about this, please be sure to ask an employee and we will be glad to help you.

What should the packet look like?

Please know that by far, the most important part of your notes is the content.  We wish to make these suggestions on format so as to make our notes look consistent.

The date should be included at the beginning of every day's notes.  See example below.

It will include the day of the week as well.  It should be written in Times New Roman size 14 and in boldface.  There will be two tabs between the year and the day.

Here is an example:

September 12, 2007                Wednesday

The rest of your notes should be typed in size 12 font.

 Use Times New Roman, please.

Always write in complete sentences.  Remember that it is your job to properly convey the professor's message.  Just because you understand a simply stated point does not mean that all students will.

You'll want to write in an outline format (but you should not use Roman Numerals or bullets). This makes your notes easier to read.  Huge blocks of text are more difficult to read than spaced out text. Try to avoid paragraphs of more than 3 sentences.

You should boldface key headings or any other words that are important.

Please do NOT use bullets to set your left margin.

Also, please be careful to NOT use the tab key.  Instead use the indent key located in the top right corner of your tool bar.  If you don't know where the indent key is, ask an editor.

Please be aware that if students ask if you are the notetaker, you are under no obligation to provide that information.  If you are uncomfortable with others knowing that you are

the notetaker, phrases like, "I'm handing out fliers for HowIGotAnA@UF " might be useful to you. We have a privacy policy here at HowIGotAnA@UF .  Your name will never be given out for any reason.
